Travis Zemke
16, Rib Mountain, died Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at his home, following a long battle with cancer.
He was born September 21, 1989 in Wausau, son of Anna (Nielsen) Zemke and the late Pat L. Zemke. He was confirmed May 2004 at Rib Mountain Lutheran Church.
Travis attended South Mountain Elementary School, John Muir Middle School, and was currently a sophomore at Wausau West High School. Among his many interests, he enjoyed playing video games, hunting with his father and sister and fishing. He was the most passionate about skateboarding with his many friends.
Travis received the best care possible from Marshfield Children's Cancer Clinic, extending his life in a fulfilling way.
Survivors include his mother, Anna Zemke, a brother, Matthew (Emily Nowak) Zemke, a sister, Heather Zemke, a niece, Sierra, all at home. He is further survived by his maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Mary Nielsen, Wausau, paternal grandfather, Clifford Zemke, aunts and uncles, Greg (Cindy) Nielsen, Mosinee, Kelly (Paul) Hammerla, Manitowish Waters, Larry Zemke, Wausau, Gary (Toni) Zemke, Marathon, Lavonne (Mike) Kannenberg, Wausau, cousins, Josh, Sam, Jake, Naomi, Mike, Michelle, Rachel, Karen.
He was preceded in death by his father, Pat L. Zemke, paternal grandmother, Isabelle Zemke and uncle, Guy Zemke.
Travis had many close friends including his best friend Francis Moeller, the Joswick family-Debbie, Jim, Emily and Ben; Kail Meyers, Ben Gerhards, Mark Kannenberg.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday October 14, 2005 at Rib Mountain Lutheran Church. Rev. Thomas Hoelter will officiate. Friends may call on Thursday from 6:30 - 9 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau and again on Friday from noon until the time of services at the church.
Travis' family would like to extend their thanks to the very special medical staff at the Marshfield Clinic for their personal services, especially, Dr. Michael McManus, Brenda Garrigan RN and all the staff involved in Travis, care. Special thanks to Travis' past and present teachers, especially, Mrs. Trollop, Mrs. Tipple, Mr. Miller as well as all members of the Emergency Response Team.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.
