Madonna Lee Hughes, 69, 712 A½ Park Avenue, Wausau, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services, at her home.
Madonna was born November 10, 1932 in Albion, Nebraska, daughter of the late Gustave and Alma (Roehing) Settje. She later married Richard M. Hughes on December 14, 1952 in Omaha, Nebraska. He preceded her in death in 1969.
Madonna was a childcare specialist, who had received many awards in the field. She was honored in a Nevada newspaper for being "Grandma Donna", for her dedicated service towards children. Playing cards, especially poker, was her favorite pastime.
She is survived by her three sons and two daughters; Randall Hughes, Terri Lee Hughes, Jay Patrick Hughes, Richard M. Hughes II, Robyn Juanima Hughes; grandchildren, Tamie and Patrick McFann, Jason and Christopher Sohmer, Melanie, Liz and Jacob Hughes; great grandchildren, Jammie and Jeffy Pauls, Dylan, Shawn, James and Nathan McFann.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Chaplain Stephen Russell will officiate. Friends may call from 1 p.m., Friday, until the time of service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.
