Kenneth L. Stencil

Kenneth L. Stencil 71, Edgar, died Monday, January 2, 2006 as a result of an accident at his home. He was born January 14, 1934 in the town of Rietbrock, son of the late Albert and Lucille (Soczka) Stencil. On April 5, 1956, he married Carmon Melton in LaGrange County, Ind. She survives. Ken served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Besides being past commander of the American Legion Sawyer-Drumm Post #393, Edgar, he was also a member of the American Legion Chapman Belter Post #4, Athens. Ken was a dairy farmer until 1987 and retired from Menzner Lumber Company, Marathon in 1994. He was a member of the Local #89 Teamsters in Kentucky. Besides woodworking, ATV riding, traveling and fishing, Ken enjoyed many Canadian fishing adventures. Among his many trips to Poland, Norway, England, Ireland and France, the highlight of all his travels was attending mass on New Year's Day at St. Peter's Basilica with Pope John Paul II as celebrant. Survivors include, his wife, Carmon Stencil, Edgar; two sons, Kenneth Jr. (Pamela) Stencil, Mt. Horeb and Christopher Stencil, Edgar; three grandsons; Zachary, Benjamin & J. Casey; one sister, Lorraine (Jim) Megal, West Allis; three brothers, Clifford (Joyce) Stencil, Edgar, Daniel (Darlene) Stencil, Mosinee and Howard Stencil, Athens; and one brother in law, Bob Wardecke, West Allis; father & mother-in-law, Richard (Catherine) Melton, Ky.; three sister-in-laws, Sandy (Curtis) Dodd, Ala., Cathy Michel, Charlotte (Dwight) Mount both of Ky.; one brother-in-law, Rick (Alison) Melton, Ky.; many nieces & nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Wardecke. The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2006 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Poniatowski. Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by the Athens American Legion. Friends may call Thursday from 4:30 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Athens funeral home.
