John E. Bergs, 73, Marathon died peacefully on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born April 27, 1950, son of the late Elmer and Theresa (Golla) Bergs. On July 9, 1972 he married Margo Krueger at Trinity Lutheran Church, town of Stettin. She survives.
For more than 34 years John worked at Green Bay Packaging in Wausau. Some of his favorite pastimes included working on cars, enjoying the wildlife in his backyard; especially the deer and the turkeys and in his younger years tending to his ginseng gardens. John also enjoyed the company of his pets; his cats, and his dogs, Fluffy and his newest addition, Snowball.
John proudly served his country in the National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Margo Bergs, Marathon, one sister-in-law, Vicki (Mike) Cherek, Suamico, one brother-in-law, Marlo (Lynn) Krueger, Marathon, two nephews, Randy (Anna Prelipp) Masanz and Mark (Julie) Bergs, his nieces, Mara (Larry) Bushee, Vanessa and Ava Krueger and Marissa (Andy) Wenig and Olivia (fiancé Jake Neerdaels, and two great nieces, Evelyn and Myra Wenig.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Judy Masanz, his brothers, Richard and Ronald, a nephew, Neil Masanz and his brother-in-law, Allen Masanz.
A private family graveside service was held at Stettin Christian Cemetery, town of Stettin. The Rev. William Ostrem held graveside prayers for the family. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Wausau is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed at www.petersonkraemer.com
