Helen S. Nowak
96, of Wausau, died Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at Marywood Convalescent Center, Wausau.
She was born May 19, 1909 in Pike Lake Township of Little Falls, Minn., daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Prozinski) Ringwelski. On September 24, 1927, she married Edward A. Nowak at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. He preceded her in death July 1, 1991.
Helen was an outdoor enthusiast with interests in hunting and fishing. Being an excellent cook, she prepared meals for the Sylvania Club of Watersmeet, Mich. where she and Ed were caretakers of a private resort. Among her many interests, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, cake decorating, gardening, mushroom and berry picking and playing cards, which was one of her favorite enjoyments.
Survivors include, her son, James (Donna) Nowak, Pewaukee; her daughter, Marcella Baumann, Wausau; six grandchildren, Kevin and Todd Baumann, Joseph Nowak, Julie Nowak, Jayne Theriault and Janet Byrne; 11 great grandchildren, Nathan and Nicole Theriault, Nicholas, Matthew and Joshua Nowak, Charlie Nowak-Wood, Grant and Gavin Byrne, Larissa Baumann and Connor and Brooke Baumann; her brother, Jerome (Josephine) Ringwelski, Wausau; and nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Walter, Clifford, Steven, Peter, Michael and Sylvester Ringwelski; three sisters, Agnes Rutz, Bernice Luethmers and Florence Koy; one half sister, Paulene Winczewski; and one son-in-law, Gerhardt Baumann.
The funeral mass will be celebrated 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2005 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at the church. Casketbeareres for services will be Kevin and Todd Baumann, Joseph Nowak, Thomas Theriault, Gary Koy and Dick Ringwelski.
Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
