George F. Wanta

George F. Wanta, 76, died Friday, November 13, 2020 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.  He was born February 27, 1944 in Wausau, son of the late Adam and Clara (Zajackowski) Wanta.  On October 28, 1989 he married Marlene Strebel at St. Mary Catholic Church.  She preceded him in death on October 8, 2020.

George and Marlene owned Sunrise Bar for 27 years and he also drove school bus for 18 years.  He was an avid NASCAR fan and was to every track except one.  While attending the races he would find the local historical places and enjoyed visiting those as well.  He also enjoyed annual fishing trips to Ely, Minnesota with his son, Chad.

Survivors include his children, Timothy (Val) Wanta, Chad (Marcia) Wanta and Tina (Greg) Baer; grandchildren, Tanner, Paris, Sterling, Soren; step-grandchildren, Christopher (Chelsea) Baer, Matthew Baer and Joshua Baer; step-great grandchildren, Sawyer, Jolene and Kenzie; siblings, Andy (Carol) Wanta, Mary Verity, Adam (Violet) Wanta, Steve Wanta and Dorothy (Tony) Sherfinski, many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Marlene.

A celebration of George’s life will be held at the annual family reunion, date yet to be determined in 2021.
