Carol A. Verhasselt

January 12, 1938 — June 24, 2016

Carol A. Verhasselt, 78, Wausau and Florida, died Friday, June 24, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay. She was born January 12, 1938, in Phlox, daughter of the late Peter and Ranona (Tatro) Waldvogel. On June 1, 1957, she married Clement Verhasselt at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Phlox. He survives. Above all, Carol loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid gardener, spending many hours tending her flower beds, so the deer and rabbits (against her wishes) would have a place to enjoy a snack. With a personality that drove her to help others, Carol was often the first on the scene with comfort food, for friends and family at the time of illness, funerals or just to bring a spot of joy. Volunteering was an important way for Carol to give back to the community and she spent many hours with Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, the Hospice House and Aspirus Hospital. Survivors include her husband, Clement Verhasselt, five children and eight grandchildren; Gary (Lori) Verhasselt, and their children, Jason, Trisha, Joe & Jamie; Don (Lois) Verhasselt; Sue Long and her children, Jess & Ashley; Steve (Sue) Verhasselt and their sons, Tyler & Trent; Randy Verhasselt; her siblings, Donna Waldvogel, Dave Waldvogel, Gene Waldvogel, Pat (Mary) Waldvogel, Kenny (Deb) Waldvogel, Matt (Julie) Waldvogel, Tom (Rosella) Waldvogel, Kathy (Bob) Nutting, Larry (Sue) Waldvogel; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Cynthia Abuelian, Mike, Bob, Patricia, Mary Ann & Judy Waldvogel. A time of sharing memories and visitation will be held at Highland Community Church, 1005 N. 28th Avenue, Wausau on Tuesday June 28, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a simple prayer service to conclude the evening. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed at www.petersonkraemer.com
