Wilmer E. Gresens,
87, Wausau, died Monday, May 18, 2009 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Colonial Manor Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Wausau.
He was born January 24, 1922 in Marathon, son of the late Robert and Elenora (Plautz) Gresens. On January 9, 1943, he married Georgiette "Tillie" Mueller at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Wausau. She preceded him in death on February 2, 2000.
Wilmer attended Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Ill. and graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minn. He was a teacher at Our Saviors Lutheran School, Wausau and the principal at St. John Lutheran School, town of Easton, for over 40 years until his retirement. Wilmer was a volunteer for the American Red Cross Disaster Services of Marathon County and a volunteer at Colonial Manor where he enjoyed doing the annual HO HO Hotline at Christmas. Wilmer worked at the Wisconsin Valley Fair as the Concessions Superintendent and was a member of the Lions Club, Wausau in which he proudly sold the most tickets for the pancake breakfast for many years. Among many interests, he enjoyed reading, baking apple pies and traveling with his family.
Survivors include, two daughters, Sandra Gresens, Bloomington, Minn. and Katherine (Michael) Lang, Rib Mountain; one son, Mark (Deborah) Gresens, East Hampton, Conn.; two granddaughters, Lara (Francisco) Quiroga, Manchester, N.H. and Erica Gresens, Boston, Mass..; one step-granddaughter, Sarah (Shawn) Sabatke, Wausau; one great grandson, Logan Quiroga; one sister, Arvilla (James) Berens, Rib Mountain; one brother-in-law, Clair Mueller, Wautoma; and his cat, "Tom".
Besides his parents and wife, Georgiette, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry, Walter, Alfred and Alvin Gresens.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church, town of Easton. Rev. Timothy Coppersmith will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services, all at the church.
Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. John Lutheran Church Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.
