William R. Strunk

William R. Strunk, 92, Colby, formerly of Milan, died Tuesday, January 11, 2011, under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice at Pine Ridge Assisted Living, Colby, surroinded by his family He was born June 22, 1918 in Kenosha, son of the late Erhardt and Melinda (Hinke) Strunk. On November 14, 1942, he married Maxine Keedy at First Methodist Church, Kenosha. She preceded him in death on April 24, 2009. Together, Bill and Maxine moved to the Athens area in 1946, where they farmed for many years. Bill was on the Athens Coop Board of Directors for six years and was supervisor for the town of Johnson for eight years. In 1979, he retired from farming and moved to Milan. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed camping, traveling and fishing. In 1991, Bill and Maxine celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Hawaii. Survivors include, three children, Janice (Gary) Rietz, Fifield, Wis., Linda (David) Framke, Wausau and Dennis (Cheryl) Strunk, Athens; six grandchildren, Adam (Kathy) Rietz, Athens, Cynthia (Gary) Hohn, Wausau, Jennifer, (Jason) Paoli, Wausau, Jason (special friend, Sharon) Strunk, Green Bay, Samantha (Justin) Hull, Green Bay and Christina (Dustin) Gross, Marshfield; six great grandchildren, Mitchell & Garrett Hohn, Samuel, Owen & Anna Paoli and Kaylee Strunk, two brothers, Arnold Strunk, Abbotsford and Harold (Joan) Strunk, Kenosha; one sister, Margaret (Harold) Oehler, Mosinee; and other relatives and friends. Besides his parents and wife, Maxine, he was preceded in death by one son, William Strunk Jr.; two brothers, Alfred and Walter Strunk; and one sister, Ann Miller. Funeral services will be at Noon Friday, January 14, 2011 at Christ United Church, Athens. Rev. Marlea M. Gilbert and Rev. Kenneth A. Dix will officiate. Burial will be in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Milan. Friends may call Friday from 10:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens is in charge of arrangements.
