William "Bill" H. Newman
66, Wausau, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, following a brief illness at Aspirus Wausau Hospital,
He was born February 19, 1942 in Marshfield, son of the late John Sr. and Pearl (Loar) Newman. On June 1, 1968, he married Mary Shanks at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Marshfield. She survives.
Bill was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He was employed with Wausau Paper, Brokaw until his retirement. Following retirement, Bill worked for National Car Rental for five years, then part-time for Fred Mueller's Wausau as a shuttle driver. Since July of 2007, he had been employed with Award Flooring, Wausau. Among his many interests, he enjoyed attending classic car shows, listening to the Statler Brothers, surfing the internet and sending e-mail's on the computer. Taking care of his family was the most important part of his life.
Survivors include, his wife, Mary Newman, Wausau; three children, John Newman, Rockford, Ill., Keith Newman, Wausau and Lori (Todd) Wunsch, Wausau; eight grandchildren, Nathan, Nicholas, Marisa, Danielle and Kasidy Newman, Chandra (Adam) Malzahn, Angela and David Wunsch; two great grandchildren, Makayla Malzahn and Alexis Wunsch; one sister, Loretta Buetsch, Wausau; two brothers, Joe (Darleen) Newman, Sun City, Ariz. and Hugh (Geraldine) Newman, Edgar; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, John Jr., Leonard, James, Sylvester and Kevin Newman; and three sisters, Delores Butcher, Rosita Hall and Mary Ann Buchberger.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Salem Ev. Lutheran Church, Wausau. Rev. Richard Russow will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10, Wausau. Friends may call Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Craig Dinger and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Aspirus Wausau Hospital for all their wonderful care and support for Bill and his family during his brief illness.
