William H. Manuel Sr

William "Bill" Manuel Sr. 93, Wausau, died Thursday, September 18, 2008 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was born December 11, 1914 in Milwaukee, son of the late John and Ann Manuel. Bill attended schools in Milwaukee and Denver, Colorado. He served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II from 1942 until 1946. While stationed at Lowry Field in Denver he met Violet Johnston and they were married on August 14, 1945 in Santa Monica, California. She preceded him in death on October 7, 1990. Bill represented the Major Appliance Division of the General Electric Company for thirty years in North Central Wisconsin. He loved to hunt, fish, golf and to entertain friends at his house as cooking was one of his hobbies. He was a member of the Elks Lodge of Wausau, the American Legion and the Golden K Kiwanis Club of which he was a past president. Bill was proud of the fact that while serving as president he helped the club establish as its major civic project: a yearly picnic for the handicapped clients of the EACH program at the Marathon County Health Care Center. This picnic is eagerly looked forward to every year by the clients of the Health Care Center. Survivors include his son, William Manuel Jr., Wausau and daughter, Kathy (Mike) Harbaugh, Bristol, Indiana; granddaughter, Stacy Rene, Madison, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Violet. The memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 22, 2008 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 6th Street, Wausau. The Rev. Dennis Creswel will officiate. Friends may call Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services all at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Bill's wishes were to have memorials directed to the Golden K Kiwanis Club, 1016 Nina Avenue, Wausau, WI 54403, and that the donations be used for future picnics.
