William "Bill" J. Konwinski
88, Wausau, died Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at Colonial Manor Medical and Rehabiliation Center, Wausau.
He was born November 19, 1917 in Iron River, Mich., son of the late Joseph and Agnes (Roden) Konwinski. On March 15, 1943, he married Camilla Anderson in Milwaukee. She survives.
William served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10, Wausau. For many years, he was a salesman for the former Standard Oil Company.
In September 1926, Bill received first place in the Charleston contest at the Delft Theatre in Iron River, Mich. Among his many interests, he enjoyed spending time with his family at their cottage in Florence County, playing cards, trout fishing, golfing and his Ford Thunderbird which he fondly referred to as his retirement car. Bill was quick witted, telling stories whenever he could and always ready to laugh.
Survivors include, his wife of 62 years, Camilla Konwinski, Wausau; two daughters, Katherine LaPorte, Wausau and Laura (Forrest) Vaughan, Englewood, Colo.; one son, Gary (Nancy) Konwinski, Littleton, Colo., five grandsons, Cameron (Jenn) Loos, Iowa City, Iowa, Joshua Konwinski, Littleton, Colo., Lucas (Fiancee Becca) Konwinski, Littleton, Colo. and Andrew and Alex Vaughan, Englewood, Colo, and his only granddaughter, Courtney Loos, Madison. In June 2006, Bill's first great grandchild will be born to Cameron and Jenn Loos.
Besides his parents, William was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2006 at Zion Lutheran Church, Wausau. The Rev. Steven Gjerde will officiate. Friends may call on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church.
