Warren J. Mertes

Warren "Mert" J. Mertes 67, 926 Golf Club Rd., Wausau, died Monday, August 8, 2005 under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was born February 6, 1938 in Wausau, son of Joseph Mertes and the late Wanda (Scutkowski) Mertes. On February 15, 1958, he married Carol Markowski at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Wausau. She preceded him in death on August 24, 2004. Warren retired from Wausau Insurance Company in 1993. Among his many interests, he enjoyed hunting and sports. Survivors include one son, Dean Mertes, New Berlin; two grandchildren, Cassie and Shawn Mertes, all of Wausau; his father, Joseph Mertes, Wausau; one brother, Jim (Geri) Mertes, Wausau; one sister, Lorraine (Carl) Hunsicker, Wausau; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and mother, he was preceded in death by his son, Greg; and his daughter-in-law, Rhonda. Friends may call Friday, August 12, 2005 from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau.
