Walter N. Wiesman, 80, 3645 Evergreen Road, Marathon, died Monday, March 10, 2003, under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Cedar Creek Manor, Mosinee.
Walter was born December 22, 1922, in the town of Cleveland, son of the late Emil and Anna (Schoenfuss) Wiesman. He married Patricia McChesney on October 9, 1954 in Wausau. She preceded him in death January 5, 2003.
Walter was a dairy and ginseng farmer in the town of Marathon for many years. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre of War. He received the Purple Heart. He enjoyed his time with and was proud to be a member of the American Legion Alois Dreikosen Post #469, Marathon. He was a member of their Honor Guard for many years. Walter was also a member of the 3rd Order of St. Francis. His fondness for Arabian horses created the start of his loving relationship with his late wife Patricia.
Survivors include three daughters, Michelle (Dave) Trainor, Delta Junction, Alaska, Mary (Todd) Belter, Stratford, Theresa (Jeff) Schneider, McAlister, Oklahoma; two sons, John (Virginie) Wiesman, Waunakee, Kenneth (Jenny) Wiesman, Wahiawa, Hawaii; one daughter-in-law, Susanne Wiesman, Marathon; six sisters, Evelyn Austin, Stratford, Magdalen Borth, Wausau, Grace (Chuck) Stefan, Chicago, Illinois, Agnes Brinkman, Marshfield, Margie Zastrow, Schofield, Sr. Mary Ann Wiesman, Marathon; two brothers, Anton (Marie) Wiesman, Marathon, Robert (Grace) Wiesman, Stratford.
Besides his wife, Patricia and his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Michael Wiesman; two brothers, Harvey and Albert Wiesman.
The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. The Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon, and again on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a Military Honors service immediately following the funeral mass on Friday at church.
Military Memorial Rites will be conducted Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Marathon Funeral Home.
