Walter J. Warnke
93, Wausau, died Friday November 25, 2005 at the Hospice House, Wausau.
He was born April 13, 1912 in Minnesota City, Minn., son of Paul and Hattie (Kalk) Warnke. On September 9, 1944, he married Anita Strehlow at Fort Sill, Okla. Walter served in the US Army during World War II for three and one half years as a staff sergeant.
For many years, Walter was employed as a truck mechanic, retiring in 1977. He was an avid fisherman and loved to go camping. In his neighborhood, Walter was known as Mr. Fix-It and he took great pride in his garden, anyone who stopped by to look at it never went away empty handed. He was also an avid Viking and Twins fan.
Private services will be held for members of the immediate family. There will be no visitation or memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
The family wishes to thank all the nurses, especially Shirley (1), Lily and Katherine and all the caregivers at home. Thanks also to Dr. Clark, his nurse, Barbara and two special friends, Vivian and Joan Kuehl. Your kindness and assistance will always be remembered.
Survivors include his wife, Anita, two sons, Robert Warnke, Stevens Point, Richard (Judy) Warnke, Cambridge, three grandchildren, James (Lisa) Warnke, Wittenberg, Jennifer (Donald Stensby) Warnke, Jefferson, Sarah (Chad Pagel) Warnke, Wausau, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
