Walter Edwin Tolk

Walter Edwin Tolk, 87, San Bernardino, Calif., formerly of Athens, died Sunday, January 17, 2010 at his home.
Walter an Original Yankee Doodle Dandy was born on July 4, 1922 in a log cabin on the family farm in Athens, Wisconsin.
Walter distinguished himself by being the first of 5 children to graduate from High School. As a volunteer in the USAF he was among the first troops to occupy Japan in World War II. Walter earned a degree in electrical engineering after attending Carlton College and graduation from the University of Wisconsin. Eventually Walter became the Western Regional Manager for the Man-Roland Company. Among his many accomplishments are: founding member of the La Mirada Prince of Peace Lutheran Church; Founding member of the La Mirada Jaycees and founding member of the La Mirada Habitat for Humanity.
He is survived by: 3 children; a sister; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as one great-great grandchild; many nieces and nephews as well as many life long, loving friends.
Funeral Services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2010 at St. John Lutheran Church - LCMS (High Steeple) Edgar, with a reception to follow. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery, Hamburg. Friends may call from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 22, 2010 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar.
