Walter H. Salzwedel
79, Wausau, died Monday March 24, 2003 at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital.
He was born January 29, 1924 in Wausau, son of the late Carl Salzwedel and Martha (Niemczyk) Balz. On May 2, 1953 he married Lila Hole at the Church of St. Anne, Wausau. She survives.
He was a distributor for Morning Glory Dairy and later had been employed with Marathon Electric Corporation, retiring in 1990. Walter spent his time being a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was very gifted in many different ways including his music, craftsmanship and in producing the 'House of 10,000 Lights' at Christmas including his multiple handpainted characters. He was also involved with UCP for two years during the Christmas celebration. He also had unending love for animals.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty years, Lila Salzwedel, Wausau, five daughters, Debra Landowski, Mary (Mark) Gaetz, Laurie (John) Gessler, Cynthia Salzwedel and Annie Kuehn, all of Wausau, ten grandchildren, Sandy & Jessica, Ashley(Julie), Derrick, Daniel, Katherine, Kristin, Jessica, Latisha and Kayce, nine great-grandchildren and one brother, Donald (Genevieve) Salzwedel, Oak Creek.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Marie and one brother, Bobbie Salzwedel.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday March 28, 2003 at The Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Steven Brice will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Sixth Street funeral home.
