Walter R. Habeck

Walter R. Habeck, 90, Wausau, died Saturday, October 26, 2013 at North Central Health Care, Wausau, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. He was born November 15, 1922 in the town of Reid, Wis., son of the late Walter Henry and Ora Madge (Bentley) Habeck. On October 26, 1946, he married Joyce L. Piatek at St. Paul's Evangelical Church, Wausau. She preceded him in death on June 16, 2007. Walter was a veteran of the United States Army and served during World War II from 1943 until 1946, in the Dutch East Indies, Philippines and New Guinea. He worked for the former James River Corp. in Wausau for 38 years, until his retirement. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling and playing baseball in his younger years. He was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan and Nascar fan. Most of all, Walter loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include, four children, Gary (Sharon) Habeck, Cecil, Wis., Sandy (John) Sharer, Sherwood, Wis., Randy (Suzanne) Habeck, Wausau and Scott (Karyl) Habeck, Tomah; eight grandchildren, Nicolas (Katie) Habeck, Walter (Claire) Habeck, Ashley (fiancAC. Chad Kempf) Habeck, Abby (Shane) Literski, J.C. Sharer, Brady (fiancAC.e Shannon Peterson) Rapp, Haylea (Kyle) Nauman and Tyler Habeck; three great-grandchildren, Joy, Edward and Nora Habeck; three siblings, Audrey Earl, Texas, Gene Habeck, Wausau and Don (Pat) Habeck, Tomahawk; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Besides his parents and wife, Joyce, he was preceded in death by eight siblings, Alexander, Faith, Erv, Allen, Truman, Pat, Merle and Harley Habeck. Private family services will be held.
