Walter Burant Jr.
68, 2206 Ryanwood Ave., Schofield, died Saturday March 1, 2003 in Stevens Point.
He was born May 11, 1934 in the town of Sharon, Portage County, son of the late Walter Sr. and Regina (Weronke) Burant. On May 27, 1961 he married Sylvia Czech at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Bevent. She survives.
Walter was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. He was employed at the former Zimpro and later with Sterling Drug in New York. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with Mid-State Engineering, Baraboo.
Among his favorite things to do were carpentry, gardening, golfing and brewing beer. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Council of the Knights of Columbus, was a volunteer at Kennedy Park Medical and Rehabilitation Center and was involved with Habitat for Humanity.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia, Schofield, his children, Diane (Michael) Burant-Regan, Seattle, Washington, James (Sue) Burant, Hartland, Gerald (Mary) Burant, Milwaukee, John Burant, Davenport, Iowa, six grandchildren, four sisters, Harriet Domaszek, Amhurst Junction, Florence (Dennis) Simonis, Rosholt, Bernice Skibba, Polonia, Janet Chojnacki, Stevens point, one brother, Nick (Phyllis) Burant, Rosholt.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ted.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday March 4, 2003 at St. Mark Catholic Church, Rothschild. Rev. Allan Slowiak will preside. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kronenwetter. Friends may call on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
