Wallace "Wally" Sloan

Wallace H. "Wally" Sloan, 82, Wausau, died Saturday February 13, 2016 at North Central Health Care Center, Wausau. He was born June 29, 1933, in Wausau, son of the late Henry and Leona "Oney" (Reichl) Sloan. On May 3, 1958, he married Gladys Chapman in Wuertzburg. She preceded him in death August 7, 1982. Wally was united in marriage to Bonnie Radke on June 29, 1984 in Wausau. She survives. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Wally served his country during the Korean War. Wally was born and raised on a dairy farm on Wausau's Westside. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Wisconsin Fuel and Light for 37 years. Wally was known as a man always on the go and this is evidenced by his many civic and fraternal involvements. Through the years he was a member of the Wausau Elks Lodge No. 248, the Moose Lodge, the Eagles, the Knights of Columbus, George Schreier Council No. 1069 and the Pere Rene Menard Fourth Degree Assembly. He was also a member of the Am Vets, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Men of Honor and was honored as a 50 year member of the Wausau Emergency Police. In his spare time he enjoyed couples bowling and pool leagues, traveling, family road trips, polkas and dancing. He possessed a strong faith, loyalty to the Packers, enjoyed stock car racing and a nice cold beer! Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Wally had wonderful sense of humor. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a kind, caring and generous person who will be deeply missed. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Sloan, Wausau, his children, Susan (Roger) Magee, Utah, Sandy (Dave) Schirrick, Nevada, Rodney (Michelle) Sloan, Marathon, Sheila (Tim) Nordlund, Wausau, Sally (Chris) Binder, Marshfield, stepchildren, Jacquelyn (James) Wrycha, Washington, Judith (Tim) Deland, Weston, Jill Radke, Wausau, Joy (Kevin) Mallum, Schofield, 22 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, one sister, Mary Ann "Mitzie" Bisping, Wausau, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides his parents and wife, Gladys, he was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Sloan Jr. and a brother-in-law, Roger Bisping. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Noon Friday February 19, 2016 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau and again on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish and Knights of Columbus prayer service Thursday evening at 5:00 p.m. at the Stewart Avenue funeral home followed by an Elks Lodge of Sorrow at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
