Wade A. Helke, 57, of Wausau, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, surrounded by his loving family and his devoted wife, Lynn. He went home to be with his Lord and Savior, held in the prayers and presence of those who loved him most.
Wade was born on September 5, 1968, to the late Wallace and Arlene (Kottke) Helke. The youngest of seven children, he was proudly known as the baby of the family, a role he carried with both humor and heart throughout his life. Growing up in a large, close-knit family shaped his steady loyalty and deep love for those around him.
On June 26, 1993, Wade was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lynn (Buchberger), at St. Michael’s Church in Wausau. Together they built a beautiful life over 32 years of marriage, grounded in faith, partnership, and unwavering devotion to each other. Lynn was his greatest joy and constant companion.
Wade believed in working hard and loving deeply. After an array of jobs, he found his true passion in building. As a craftsman and woodworker, he was meticulous in every detail and took great pride in his work. His strong work ethic and keen eye for excellence led him to build many Parade of Homes in the Wausau area, with his business, Helke-Rakow, each one a testament to his skill and integrity.
He loved staying busy outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, or snowmobiling. Wade was also an avid sports fan who rarely missed a game. He cheered faithfully for the Milwaukee Brewers and the Milwaukee Bucks, but especially loved the Green Bay Packers.
He absolutely loved dogs, especially his soul dog, Tucker, his faithful chocolate lab. The bond they shared was one of pure companionship and joy.
Wade was blessed with a lifelong best friend, Kevin Mikula. Their friendship endured through every season of life, remaining strong and steady from boyhood through adulthood, a rare and treasured gift.
In his later years, Wade faced the challenges of an autoimmune disease that limited his mobility. Through this journey, Dr. Matthew Clancy, Dr. Thomas Stoffel, and Dr. Vera Bocoun, became an important and steady presence in Wade’s care. Wade deeply valued the compassion, dedication, and expertise these providers brought to his treatment. Even as his body grew weaker, his spirit and determination remained strong. He continued to spend time in his shop, offering advice, guidance, and a helping hand on building projects for those he loved. He was always willing to share his knowledge and lend his steady presence. His resilience and quiet strength were evident to all who knew him.
Wade was incredibly proud of his nieces and nephews. He followed their accomplishments, in sports, careers, and life, with genuine excitement and encouragement. Their successes were his pride and joy.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Lynn; his siblings, Dennis (Kristin) Helke of Mosinee, Gary (Pamela) Helke of Wausau, Donovan (Lynn) Helke of Mosinee, Wesley Helke of Wausau, Dwight (Lori) Helke of Wausau, and his favorite sister, Gayle (Jerry) Woller of Wausau; his mother-in-law, Arlene Buchberger of Wausau; sister-in-law, Michele (Andy) Kettner; brother-in-law, Todd Buchberger; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Arlene Helke; his father-in-law, Donald Buchberger; and his cherished dog, Tucker.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and healthcare team at Aspirus Wausau Hospital for their compassionate and exceptional care. Also to the MSICU staff, their kindness and dedication brought comfort during a deeply difficult time.
Wade will be remembered for his steady hands, his generous heart, his loyalty, and the quiet strength that carried him through life. The homes he built will stand for years to come, but the love he built within his family will endure forever.
