Vung Meng Yang, known affectionately to family and friends as "Meng" or "Mraow," passed away on August 22, 2026, in Wausau, Wisconsin, at the age of 35.
Born in Wausau in 1991, Meng was the beloved youngest child of Abraham and La Yang. As the youngest of eight siblings, he brought endless warmth, quick wit, and an easygoing nature to his family.
Meng was a naturally kind-hearted and selfless soul who required very little in life to be content. Exceptionally considerate of others, he never asked for more than he needed; whenever he spotted lost money on the street, he would intentionally leave it behind, holding out hope that the owner might return to find what they had lost. Known for his signature long hair and a lifelong passion for aviation, he dreamed of becoming a pilot. Meng possessed a playful creativity and a unique knack for assigning clever nicknames to his cousins—names that invariably stuck for life.
He found delight in life's vibrant details and cared deeply for all living things. Whether stopping in his tracks to help an injured rabbit on the street or tending to his two beloved cats, his big heart and gentle nature were always on display. He enjoyed Mexican and spicy foods, as well as sharing his enthusiasm for sci-fi, zombies, and favorite films like Jackie Chan's The Myth. Above all, Meng cherished the spirit of adventure, holding fast to the dream of wandering the world and meeting a beautiful companion to share in life's journey.
Meng is survived by his loving parents, Abraham and La Yang; his seven older siblings, Kong (Maloree) Yang, Bao Yang, Daniel (Bauj) Yang, Pang Dao (David) Vang, Gau Nou (Sou) Thao, Peter (Nalee) Yang, and Mary (Andrew) Chang; his beloved cat, Baby; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews who will miss his quiet kindness deeply.
A celebration of Meng's life will be held on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at 1:00 PM at: Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau, WI 54401.
