Virginia Thornton
85, Wausau, formerly of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin died Thursday, January 18, 2007 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Colonial Manor Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Wausau.
She was born June 7, 1921 in Prairie du Chien, daughter of the late Walter and Florence (Kellogg) Williams. On April 4, 1938 she married Harold Thornton in Marquette, Iowa.
Virginia worked as an aide at the former Marathon County Health Care Center and the former Ricky Zender Memorial Home. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Florence Baumann, Madison, Betty Schulz, Tempe, Ariz., Dorothy (Gary) Drury, Schofield, Ronald (Bea) Thornton, Aurora, Ill., Linda (Jim) Matthews, Phoenix, Ariz., Reuben (Helen) Thornton, Aurora, Ill., Walter (Joyce) Thornton, Prairie du Chien, Bonnie (Chris) Ackerman, Tempe, Ariz., and David (Diane) Thornton, Peoria, Ill., 32 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren and four step brothers, Clint (Margaret) Williams, Irma, Clarence (Beverly) Williams, Arizona, Richard (Mary) Williams, Irma and Edward (Carol) Williams, Janesville and one sister-in-law, Marge Williams, Tomahawk.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Judy Thornton, three brothers, Walter, Meryl and Buddy Williams and two step brothers, Rollie and Eugene Williams.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 22, 2007 at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. The Rev. Dennis Prazuch will officiate. Friends may call on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the Sixth Street funeral home.
