Virginia M. Schmitz, 83, Weston, died Wednesday June 4, 2014 at Stoney River Assisted Living, Weston, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
She was born May 12, 1931, in Wausau, daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Feldmeier) Schneck. On October 14, 1950, she married Lloyd J. Schmitz in Wausau. He preceded her in death February 14, 2004.
Prior to her retirement, Virginia had been employed with the former Edward Hines Lumber Company and later with Prime Source. As a homemaker, she enjoyed baking, reading and was especially fond of the time she spent with her grandchildren. Virginia and Lloyd were charter members of St. Matthew Catholic Church and through the years were active volunteers in many church functions.
Survivors include her five children, Gary (Penny) Schmitz, Dennis (Mary) Schmitz, Janice Schmitz, Karen Schmitz and Robert (Janet) Schmitz, all of Wausau, six grandchildren, Josh and Stacey Schmitz; Rebekah (Andy) Chartier, Jacob (Tracey) Schmitz; Kyle and Adam Schmitz; great grandchildren, Stephanie, Andrew, Peter, Hallel, Isaiah and Grace; one great great grandchild, Maxwell; siblings, Mary Jane (James) Mykelby, Weston, Rosemary (John) Bauer, Wausau, Patricia Lohrey, Green Bay, Thomas (Judy) Schneck, South Carolina, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two grandsons, Jeffrey and Michael Schmitz, one brother, Gerald Schneck and one sister, Lorraine McGinnis.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday June 9, 2014 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
