Virginia D. Matis

Virginia D. Matis 85, 500 Grand Avenue, Wausau died Friday, November 30, 2007 at her home under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice Services. She was born December 23, 1921 in the town of Stettin, daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes (Gasdecke) Frymark. On June 28, 1941 she married Joseph Matis Sr. at St. James Catholic Church, Wausau. He preceded her in death on July 26, 1995. Virginia was a homemaker and also worked at Kresge's and the Marathon Rubber Plant for many years. Some of her favorite pastimes included camping, traveling, cooking, canning, baking, putting together jigsaw puzzles and gardening. Virginia had a great love for her entire family and truly cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her four children, Joseph (Sandra) Matis, Mosinee, Emil (Kathy) Matis, Springfield, Oregon, Delores "Tootie" Rice, Wausau and Ruth (Jay) Matis, Mosinee, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, three sisters-in-law, Mary Stepan, Mosinee, Agnes Frymark, California and Arlene Matis, Wausau and one step sister, Mae Sawyer, Milwaukee. Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one grandson, Drew Matis, her sister Josephine Johns and three brothers, Emil, Norbert and Eugene Frymark. The funeral mass will be celebrated 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. The Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in Virginia's name. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau is in charge of arrangements.
