Virginia R. Halkoski
86, loving wife, mother and grandmother, died Wednesday October 22, 2008 at Marywood Convalescent Center, Wausau, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
She was born September 21, 1922 in Wausau, daughter of the late Nick and Della (Mucha) Darnick. She attended High School in Wausau where she met Walter. They were wed on May 11, 1944 and Walter cherished his sweetheart. He preceded her in death September 19, 2003.
Together they had four children; Michael Hale, Jerry (Pat) Hale, Valparaiso, Ind., Jane (Ray) Wery, Wausau, Lori (Bill) Prutz, Kronenwetter, four grandchildren, Michael, David, Emily and Ben as well as many nieces and nephews.
Virginia lost her first born son, Michael on January 13, 1981 and she was also preceded in death by three brothers, Phillip, Don and Eugene.
Through the years, Virginia held traditional jobs at the old Rubber Plant, the Ben Franklin Store and was employed as a cook at the Stettin and Franklin Elementary Schools. She loved the details of homemaking, especially doing the laundry. It was not uncommon to see her wash on the line in the middle of winter. She also loved to bake and tend her flowers with the same delicate passion.
She enjoyed being with family and friends, playing cards and dancing. Many will remember her grace on the dance floor. She and Walter were the perfect partners in dance as well as in life. They exemplified all that was beautiful when dancing and she is now waltzing again with him.
We will miss her quick wit, beautiful smile and sparkling blue eyes. She was a wonderful wife and mother.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday October 25, 2008 at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Rev. Robert Thorn will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the Sixth Street funeral home.
The family would like to thank Barb Schira, Dr. Cothron, Bill Seidl, Dr. Gruling, Dr. Melms and the Hospice team for all their care and concern. Special thanks to the Darnick family, especially Craig for his love and cards. Love and thanks always to our tower of strength, Norma Kipp.
