Virginia R. (Boettcher) Grothe, age 88, died Sunday, March 10, 2024, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Mount View Care Center in Wausau, Wisconsin.

She was born in Tomah, Wisconsin, on September 16, 1935.  She was the daughter of Rev. Robert and Edna (Mengedoth) Boettcher.  On August 20, 1960, she married the love of her life, Rolland L. Grothe.

She was a teacher at Wilson Elementary School in Janesville, Wisconsin, for 30 years.  Following retirement, she spent time with family and friends, enjoyed time at the family’s Wisconsin cabin, and spent winters in Arizona.  She was also very active in the United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her loving children John (Darlene) Grothe and Debra (Randall) Singletary; along with grandchildren Alyssa (Kolby) Davis, Zachary (Heather, fiancé) Grothe, Nicholas (Ashlynne, fiancé) Singletary, and Tatiana Singletary; and great-grandchildren Isabell, Addie, Max, Weston, Asher, Teiah, and Hezekiah.  She is also survived by her sisters Lila Rouse and Patricia “Pat” Boettcher.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and grandson Brock.

A Celebration of Virginia’s life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Gathering Place in Milton, WI.  Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2024 at Milton Lawn’s Cemetery, Janesville. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family asks that donations be made to your local hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association in Virginia’s memory.
