Virgil R. Schumacher
61, 3839 State Road 107, Marathon died Friday, September 21, 2001 at home surrounded by his family.
Virgil was born October 24, 1939 in Wausau, son of the late John and Marie (Ruplinger) Schumacher. He married Marilyn Buchberger September 17, 1960 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. She survives.
Virgil was the owner and operator of the Poplar Tree Ballroom from 1967 to 1992 and a lifetime ginseng farmer.
He loved his children and grandchildren and always knew his deceased infant daughter was his special little angel, especially during his illness and in this time of need. Virgil also enjoyed playing his concertina and listening to polka music.
Survivors besides his wife, Marilyn Schumacher, Marathon, include three sons, Michael Schumacher, Mosinee, Robert (Traci) Schumacher, Marathon and Richard (Sherrie) Schumacher, Mosinee, four grandchildren, Jennifer, Thomas, Brianna and Ami Schumacher, two brothers, Harold (Mary) Schumacher and Merlin (Gen) Schumacher and one sister, Dorothy Schumacher, all of Marathon, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, Virgil was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Mary Ann.
The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2001 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Joseph Diermeier O.F.M. Cap will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 4 - 8 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon and on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish vigil service 7 p.m. Monday at the Marathon funeral home.
