Virgil E. Auner

Virgil E. Auner 78, Athens, passed away, Friday, December 31, 2010 at home under Ministry Home Care Hospice after a courageous 21 month battle with cancer. He was born October 10, 1932 in the town of Halsey, to the late Fred and Della (Graveen) Auner. After attending school, Virgil took a truck driving position at Mullins Cheese. He was drafted in the service in the United States Army in 1953 during the Korean War. He spent 18 months in Hokkaido, Japan and left the service as a corporal. Virgil then returned to the family farm in the town of Johnson, which is now where Miltrim Farms is located. On October 13, 1956 he married the love of his life, Betty Dahl. In 1960 they moved to their present farm where they have lived ever since. Virgil enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and his daily drive down by the cabin to look for deer. He also enjoyed playing Sheepshead with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Betty, Athens; children, Cindy (Vern) Kloos, Rozellville; their children, April (Jesse) Daul, Adam (Jamie) Frahm and Mary Kloos; Randy (Debbie) Auner, Athens; their children, Rachel (Scott) Chenier and Andrew Auner; Karen Kloth, Dorchester; her children, Nicole (Marc) Den Otter and Jeremy Kloth; Kelly Albrecht, Athens; her children, Crystal (Matt) Sebold and Willie Albrecht; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Laura (Victor) Woellner, Athens and Delores Auner, Wausau and one brother-in-law, James Gwidt, Wausau. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters, Myrtle Peters, Marella Hopperdietzl and Sandra Gwidt, one brother, Willie Auner and one great-grandson, Dylan. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Christ United Church, Athens. Burial will be in Athens Village Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. The family would like to thank Dr. Reding, Marshfield Clinic Oncology, Marshfield; Dr. Cameron and his wife Janice, Hope Clinic, Athens, for their devotion and compassion while Virgil was under their care.
