Viola "Vi" F. Schleif, 96, Schofield, died Saturday, August 2, 2014 at North Central Health Care Center, Wausau.
She was born April 10, 1918 in Catawba, daughter of the late Thomas and Gertrude (Hansen) Wanish. She was married to Henry Leopold in 1935, and into this union three children were born. Hank preceded her in death. She then married Sam Lehman in 1958, and together they were the owners and operators of Vi's Corner Inn, Grand Avenue, Schofield. Sam preceded her in death also. Vi then was united in marriage to Elmer Schleif on April 12, 1990 in Las Vegas. He survives.
Vi belonged to St. Peter Lutheran Church, Schofield and was an honorary member of the Ladies Aid and the LL Club. She worked at Montgomery Wards in Antigo and Skogmo's in Schofield, and volunteered her time at Bethesda Thrift Shop. She enjoyed bowling, dancing and her animals and spent many hours walking her dogs. She loved to gamble and travel and spent 14 winters in Harlingen, Texas with Elmer.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer Schleif, Schofield, her children, Jean Walsh, Thiensville, James (Carol) Leopold, Wausau and Ricky (Karen) Leopold, Marathon, eight grandsons, Steve Walsh, Jon Walsh, Jim (Su) Walsh, Jeff (Lori) Leopold, Doug (Ann) Leopold, Steve (Becky) Leopold, Mike (Carrie) Leopold, Bruce (Billi-Jo) Leopold, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren and two sisters, Ione Norman, Michigan and Luella Moore, Catawba.
Besides her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by her siblings, John, Glenn, Tom, Wally, Vern, Ruth, Arlene and Myrtle and one grandson, Daniel.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church, 1351 S. Grand Avenue, Schofield. The Rev. Walter Davidson will officiate. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.
