Vilas B. Sonntag
85, Schofield, died Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Kennedy Park Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Weston.
He was born December 20, 1926 in Ringle, son of the late Henry and Dominica (Yach) Sonntag. On June 5, 1948, he married Sally Czech at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Bevent. She survives.
Vilas was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II. For over 30 years, he was employed with Crestline Corp., retiring as Vice-President and served as a consultant with Weathershield in Medford. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed traveling, gardening, was an avid golfer and enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino.
Survivors include, his wife, Sally Sonntag, Schofield; six children, Terry (Cathy) Sonntag, Sun Prairie, Colleen (Paul) Wasilewski, Merrimac, Janel (Mark) Kluck, Hatley, Robert (Tammy) Sonntag, Schofield, Rita (Mark) Yaeger, Kronenwetter and Susan (Jeff) Maxon, Waldo, Wis.; eight grandchildren, Scott and Ryan Pingel, Dylan and Amanda Kluck, Derek and Brett Sonntag, and Michael and Ashley Maxon; one great granddaughter, Brooke Sonntag; and one sister, Gladys Meidl, Aniwa.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Grace Utech.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2012 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Weston. Rev. James Schaefer will preside. Friends may call Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
