Victor J. Tranetzke

May 11, 1919 — March 31, 2014

Victor J. Tranetzke, 94, died Monday, March 31, 2014 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Wausau Manor. He was born May 11, 1919 in Wausau, son of the late Frank Sr. and Agnes (Graykowski) Tranetzke. On June 2, 1941 he married Evelyn Remmel at St. Mary Catholic Church, Wausau. She survives. Victor served his country in the United States Army during World War II from 1942 until 1945. In his younger years he worked at several different jobs including being a caddy at the golf course, employee at Hildensperger and Kostuck Funeral Home, working with his dad at his upholstery business and at Mirmans Furniture. He then worked at American Can for 27 1/2 years until his retirement. He was always a hard worker and great provider so Evey could stay home to raise the children. Vic was the worlds greatest handyman and could fix or build anything. He loved working with wood, whether it be turning out candle holders on the lathe, building furniture or teaching his skills to his children and grandchildren. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and family camping trips or cookouts. Vic looked forward to bi-annual Army Reunions with his Army buddies. A recent highlight in his life was his trip to Washington DC on the Never Forgotten Honor Flight in September 2012, escorted by his daughter Mary. He also enjoyed the correspondence with Mietek and his family, relatives from Swiecie, Poland, who had found our family in the last few years. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, Wausau; children, Joseph (Jill) Tranetzke, Stephen (Marcus) Tranetzke, Mary (Ted) Utecht-Johnson, Karen (Mike) Bembenek and Anne (Dave) Raduechel; grandchildren, Jereme (Lynn), and Jared Tranetzke, Kirke (Melanie) and Kyle (Elizabeth) Utecht, Travis (Kimi), Kacy (Adam) and Kayla (Devon) Wasmundt; step-grandchildren, Kimberly (Evan), Amanda and Mary Beth Johnson; great-grandchildren, Keyanna, Kaleb, Maycie, Eli, Thomas, Axel and Dezmund; sisters-in-law, Marge Peterson and Pearl Tranetzki, many grand dogs, other relatives and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel, son-in-law, Keith Utecht, granddaughter, Samantha Raduechel (who always held a special place in his heart), all of his siblings, Marie, Leone, Wanda, Sophie, Helen, Margaret, George, Frank Jr. and John, and many other sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at Noon on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Friends may call Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. Full military honors will be presented by the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post No. 10, Wausau following the Mass on Saturday. Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2014 at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. The family of Victor would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Nichols and his staff, the staff at Wausau Manor and the hospice team, especially Carla and Linda for their comfort and care while Victor was at Wausau Manor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Never Forgotten Honor Flight or St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Though you left us sad and lonely, you will forever be in our hearts. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed at www.petersonkraemer.com
