Veryl Nowak

Veryl Nowak 85, Wausau, died Thursday, March 25, 2004 at Colonial Manor Medical & Rehabilitation Center, Wausau. She was born September 24, 1918 in the town of Texas, daughter of the late Gustov and Leona (Duranceau) Hollinger. On June 12, 1943, she married Alfred Nowak at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. He preceded her in death on October 27, 1979. Veryl taught in a rural school in Marathon County for nine years and then was a secretary at the Wausau Paper Mill for two years returning to teaching for four more years. She was a member of the Former St. James Parish Council of Catholic Women, the Diocese of La Crosse Deanery of Catholic Women, N.A.I.M. Organization and the Catholic Women's Club both of Wausau. Besides volunteer work at Colonial Manor Nursing Home and Marywood Convalescent Center, both of Wausau, Veryl enjoyed playing cards, baking, watching auto racing, especially watching her son, Lyle race. Most special to her was spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her son, Lyle (Marcy) Nowak, Wausau; two grandchildren, Heidi (Ross) Wolfe and Kurt Heckendorf; two great grandchildren, Megan and Hannah Wolfe; one son-in-law, Eugene Heckendorf. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Heckendorf and brothers and sisters. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2004 at the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 621 N. 2nd Street, Wausau. Rev. Stephen Gross will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again from 9:00 a.m. Monday until time of services at the church. There will be a 7:00 p.m. bible vigil Sunday evening at the Sixth Street funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established for Veryl's grandchildren's education fund.
