Vernon T. Fischer

Vernon T. Fischer, 91, Marathon, died Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was born May 30, 1922 in Edgar, son of the late Theodore and Mathilda (Berres) Fischer. On June 13, 1951, he married Donna Geib at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. She survives. In 1945, Vernon and Donna built their farm in the town of Rib Falls, where they raised their family and farmed until retirement in 1987. Vernon enjoyed the farm life and kept the farm and home in immaculate shape. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed woodworking and had the opportunity to make an exact replica of his farm, among many other projects. He also had a passion for collecting John Deere tractors. Survivors include, his wife, Donna Fischer, Marathon; two children, Bill (Karen) Fischer, Marathon and Diane (Randy) Durst, Rib Mountain; four grandchildren, Chad (Carly Frombach) Fischer, Heather (Aaron) Zimmel, Ryan (Amber Guralski) Fischer and Julie (Brian) Carnes; and two great grandchildren, Zachary and Ali Carnes. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Patricia; two brothers, Mark and Fritz; and one sister, Virginia. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon. Private funeral services will be held on Wednesday. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery, Edgar. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the First Responders and the E.M.T.'s in both the Marathon and Edgar areas and also the staff of the Critical Care Unit and Palliative Care Unit at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
