Verna Nevinski Jones

Verna Nevinski Jones 87, Wausau, died Monday October 25, 2010 at Kennedy Park Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Weston. She was born November 7, 1922 in Hatley, daughter of the late Walter and Bernice (Falkowski) Nevinski. On April 13, 1944, she married James A. Jones Jr. in Chicago, Ill. He preceded her in death March 4, 1987. During World War II, Verna worked at a defense plant in Washington state where recently the family discovered the atomic bomb was made. Verna had been employed as a waitress at the former Bill's Fine Food, Wausau. During her time at the restaurant she contributed many tasty recipes to the menu. She and her husband, James, owned and operated Rib Mountain Refrigeration, until the time of his death. She was a member of the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus and their St. Catherine Council. Among her favorite things to do were reading, writing, crocheting, gardening and traveling. Verna served as a great source of inspiration to her family, providing great encouragement as they worked toward achieving their life's goals. She especially enjoyed visiting with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her five children, Bronwen (Larry Perkins) Jones, North Liberty, Iowa, Nancy (Dave) Sefton, Canton, Minn., Thomas (Sue Chemerow) Jones, Madison, Karla (Glenn) Smith, East Bethel, Minn., Lynnette (Tom Grzadzielewski) Jones, Fond du Lac, seven grandchildren, Scott Sefton, Jesse (Christi) Smith, Greg (Jill) Smith, Sarah Jones, Alex Jones, Megan Jones and Nicholas Grzadzielewski, six great grandchildren, Kylie, Christian, Logan, Taylor, Trinity, Justice Smith, three sisters, Anna Cziske, Milwaukee, Fran Siemon, Schofield and Mary (Wally) Fredette, Pittsville. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James A. Jones III, three brothers, Edwin, Louis and Stanley Nevinski, five sisters, Lill Nelson, Angie Russell, Tona Ostrowski, Violet Formosa and Jo Gurtner. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Weds. November 3, 2010 at The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. Rev. Gerald Pehler OFM Cap. will preside. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 - 7 p.m at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau and from 10 a.m. Weds. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish vigil service at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Stewart Avenue funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
