Vera A. Sellung

Vera A. Sellung, 87, Weston, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Mountain Terrace, Wausau, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Vera was born in Nebraska on December 13, 1937, to the late Orval and Florence (Cowan) Ross. Her strong work ethic was instilled as a child working on the family farm, which she loved and talked about often.

Following her graduation from Nebraska’s Shelton High School, she moved to Milwaukee, where she met the love of her life, Dale.  When they first met, she knew he was the one for her because he had the number 13 tattooed on his arm and that was always her lucky number. They were married on March 30, 1968 and moved to Wausau, WI shortly afterwards.  Vera and Dale had a great life together and had many great friends and were thankful for all of them.

Vera was great at water skiing, and some of you may have seen her on Lake Wausau skiing on her head on a saucer or skiing on her saucer step stool turning circles on the water.  Among some of her other favorite pastimes, she enjoyed kayaking, swimming, was an excellent bowler and could always be found riding her bicycle, moped or scooter around.

Vera held several jobs: working at Kraft Foods, waitressing at area restaurants and working at some of the local health clubs.

Survivors include, her daughter, Robin (Roger) Fisher, Kearney, NE; three grandchildren, Jason, Mary Beth and Donald; one sister, Doris; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews; and many close friends who were dear to Vera.

Besides her parents and husband, Dale, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ila and Mary.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025 at Restlawn Memorial Park Chapel, Wausau.  Rev. Lance Hoelscher will officiate.  Inurnment will be in the Memorial Chapel Mausoleum.

A special thank you to Mountain Terrace and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice staff for the cares Vera received. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice in memory of Vera.
