Urban L. Passehl

Urban "Effie" Passehl 72, 5838 Corlad Road, Athens, died Monday, September 6, 2004 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was born February 13, 1932 in the town of Johnson, son of the late Charles and Margaret (Burger) Passehl. On June 22, 1957 Urban was united in marriage to Elizabeth Jane Maier at St. Anne Catholic Church in Wausau. She preceded him in death on April 27, 1977. Urban worked at Weyerhaeuser in Marshfield for over 20 years, Crestline in Wausau and most recently at Weathershield in Medford for over 15 years, until his retirement. Many things kept him busy but deer hunting, Coho fishing near Sheboygan, trout fishing, card playing, listening to polkas and dancing were among his favorites. Two special days for Urban and his family were Christmas and Labor Day when they would get together and celebrate the season. Always eager to make conversation Urban was known to stop and talk to anyone. Urban served his country in the Korean War from 1952 to 1955 earning the Navy Occupation Service Award, Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Ribbon. He was also a member of Chapman-Belter American Legion Post #4 and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Andrew J. Sutter Post #8527 both of Athens. Survivors include his children, Udell "Noodles" Passehl, Abbotsford, and his family, Dwight and Clayton Passehl, Lucas (Shelley) Passehl, Alaina (Felix) Romo, and their daughter, Mercedes Romo, Timothy "Hippy" (Jenny) Passehl, Athens, and his family, Aaron and Emily Passehl, Sherri (Darrell) Boyd, Athens, and her family, James and Craig Boyd and Casey Passehl, Sandra (Jay) Schmidt, Athens, and her family, Michelle and Jennifer Schmidt, Kevin (Barbara) Passehl, Athens, and his family, Ashley LaFeber, K.J., Lindsey and Brittany Passehl, Sue (John) Wood, Pennsylvania, and her family, Tori and V.J. "Bud" Shover and Michael Wood, one brother and one sister, Anthony Passehl, Athens and Margaret Stark, California and his mother-in-law, Theresa Maier, Wausau. Besides his parents and wife Urban was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Loretta Gauthier, Rev. George Passehl, Jerome and Charles Passehl and Betty Wehrman. The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 9, 2004 at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Milan. The Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in St. John Baptist Cemetery, Wuertzburg. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and again on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
