Travers Markowski

Travers "Trav" Gustave Markowski 29, of 2203 Aster Road, Wausau died Friday October 15, 2004, at St. Mary Hospital, Rochester, Minn after a courageous 15-year battle with Von Hippel - Lindau Disease, a rare, genetic blood vessel tumor disease affecting all central nervous system organs. Trav was born March 15, 1975, in Wausau, son of LeRoy and Cindy (Marcott) Markowski. He was known as "Hucky" for many years as a young boy by family and friends until middle school when he preferred to be called by his given name. Trav was proud to participate in the first year of Sharon Ryan's Dreamflight Wausau Science Program at Rib Mountain Elementary School. In 1993 Trav graduated from Wausau West High School. He attended U. W. Extension - Marathon Campus and graduated from U. W. Madison in 1998 with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. Shortly after graduation, Trav completed an internship with Appleton Papers, Appleton, Wis. Trav was an avid reader, proficient at computer games, enjoyed music, downhill skiing in his high school years, playing electric guitar and was an avid fan of pro-wrestling. His good-natured personality, kindness and bravery in the face of many surgeries and progressive physical disabilities was an inspiration to his family. Trav suffered from all that Von Hippel-Lindau Diease had to offer. His family appreciated Trav for his ability to focus on the present and not live in fear of the future. He was a kind soul and will be missed dearly. Survivors include his parents, two sisters Pam (Mark) Clark, Wausau and Amber (Nathan) Schuck, Stevens Point, nieces, nephew, aunts, uncles and friends. Funeral Services will be 5:00 p.m. Tuesday October 19, 2004, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 3200 North Mountain Road, Wausau. Friends may call on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of services at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau is in charge of the arrangements. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to doctors and nurses at Mayo Clinic and St. Mary Hospital, Rochester, Minn who gave medical care, expert advice and support to Trav these many years and the doctors and nurses in Wausau who were involved with Trav's care over the years.
