Thomas E. Van Rixel

Thomas E. Van Rixel, 79, Marathon, died Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at his home. He was born March 23, 1938 in Milwaukee, Wis., son of the late Leo and Margaret (Gehl) Van Rixel. On May 16, 1964, he married Janet Raasch at St. James Catholic Church, Wausau. She preceded him in death on January 27, 2017. Thomas graduated from Newman High School. In his younger years, he enjoyed working as a pilot for Grimm's Flying Services in Wausau, and was also a flight instructor and charter pilot. He then began working for J. I. Case Corp., where he retired after many years of employment. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed painting and playing guitar. Survivors include his children, Alicia Madison, Jason (Cindy) Van Rixel, Janeen (Chris) Codden, Mark (Rebecca) Van Rixel, Vincent (Jennifer) Van Rixel, Stacy (Daniel) Bornbach and Gabriel (Janine) Van Rixel; 21 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Judy (Howard) Schultz. Besides his parents and wife, Janet, he was preceded in death by four siblings. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Friends may call on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Tom's family.
