Thomas W. Miilu
60, Wausau, died unexpectedly June 20, 2011 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born September 1, 1950, in Pontiac, Michigan, son of Mildred (Lahti) Miilu, Mass City, Mich., and the late Walter Miilu. On April 19, 1980, he married Kathy Quednow in Prentice. She survives.
Tom was a graduate of Ontonagon High School and attended Michigan Tech. Prior to his retirement in 2008, Tom had been employed with Otis Elevator for 37 years and he was a member of the International Union of Elevators and Constructors Local No. 15. Sports and the outdoors were his favorite ways to relax and enjoy life. The Packers, Brewers and Badgers were his favorite teams and he was also a huge Wolverine and NASCAR fan. He bowled and played softball for many years in both Mass City and Wausau and even tried his hand as assistant coach in his son's Little League games.
Hunting and fishing were special times set aside with special people, his family and friends. A week of deer hunting in Michigan was always followed by a week of deer hunting in Wisconsin with his brother-in-law, Gene. Goose hunting in Michigan was an annual event at the Savolainen Camp with the same annual crew. This past year marked a new adventure with his best friend Dave Savolainen, Salmon fishing on Lake Michigan which he truly enjoyed.
Through the years, Tom was involved in many parish activities at St. Matthew Catholic Church, including their annual church picnic and the Men's Club.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Miilu, Wausau, a son, Brandon Miilu, Wausau, a daughter, Brittney Miilu, Wausau, his mother, Mildred Miilu, Mass City, Mich., two sisters, Sharon Miilu-Landree, Ontonagon, Mich., Debbie (William) Shardlow, Green Bay, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
