Thomas E. Merz

Thomas Merz, 41, Wausau died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014. Tom was born February 12, 1973 to Thomas and Joan Merz in Fond du Lac, WI. He graduated from Goodrich High School in Fond du Lac in 1991. Tom eventually went to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he graduated in 1998 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Education with an emphasis in Occupational Health and Safety. Thomas so loved his family and cherished his private time with his sons, Jack & Luke. There are many fond memories of camping, biking, hiking and fishing with their dad. He was always on the hunt for the elusive "musky that got away". His time on the water, was his time with the Lord. He was an intense conversationalist with an insatiable thirst for history and the written word. He loved to read everything from classic literature to a spine tingling sci-fi thriller. He shared his love of books and knowledge with his boys and family, and anyone willing to take on a good challenge. Tom was known by many for his sense of humor, his gentle nature, and his love of a good time. Survivors include his wife, Sarah Merz, Schofield, his mother, Joan Merz, Fond du Lac, two children, Jack and Luke Merz, both of Schofield, two siblings, Patrick (Carey) Merz, Fond du Lac and Michelle (John) Brown, St. Cloud and his mother and father-in-law, Ken (Ann) Terrill, Sun Prairie. Tom was preceded in death by his father and his sister, Mary Secord. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2014 at The Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Friends may call on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
