Thomas Ackerman
64, Wausau, lost his battle with mesothelioma at home with his family by his side on Sunday, May 11, 2003.
He was born on January 28, 1939 in Sturgeon Bay, son of the late Leo and Calista (Baxter) Ackerman. On October 21, 1977, he married Sylvia Abrahamson in Wausau. She survives.
Following service in the US Navy, Tom matriculated at University of Wisconsin LaCrosse. Subsequently he began a career with Wausau Insurance Companies and attained a MBA from Cardinal Stritch College, Milwaukee. He retired from Wausau Insurance in 1995 while serving as regional claims manager in Charlotte, North Carolina. Tom also retired from Bituminous Insurance of Charlotte in 2001, where he served as claims manager.
Besides his wife, Sylvia Ackerman, Wausau, survivors include sons, Michael Ackerman, Atlanta, Georgia and Dr. Carl (Melinda) Williams, Madison; sisters, Mary Jo (Mark) Seidl, Algoma and Jean Schriever, Whitewater; brothers, Dr. Robert (Barbara) Ackerman, Henderson, Nevada and Terry (Linda) Ackerman, Middleton.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2003 Wausau Community Chapel 2125 Franklin St. Rev. Lou Rosetti will officiate. Family will greet friends following the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Marshfield Clinic Oncology Research Department in memory of Tom Ackerman.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Steven Sorscher, Dr. Jeffrey Oswald, and the oncology department staff of the Marshfield Clinic. Also, the family wishes to thank the staff of Comfort Care & Hospice Services at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital.
