Theresa A. Stanke, 90, Milwaukee, formerly of Wausau and Bevent, died Thursday, September 5, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital, Milwaukee.
Theresa was born March 3, 1912 in Rosholt, daughter of the late Paul and Helen (Zdroik) Wroblewski. She married Lawrence L. Stanke November 4, 1931 at St. Adalbert Catholic Church, Rosholt. He preceded her in death November 30, 1972.
Theresa and Lawrence were the owner/operators of Stanke's Tavern near Bevent until 1965. She then moved to Wausau and worked for Wausau Insurance until the time of her retirement. She was a member of St. James Fraternity and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Rose. She was an active member of the former St. Mary Catholic Church, Wausau. Theresa was an excellent seamstress who enjoyed knitting, crocheting, making crafts, baking and volunteering her time at Mount View Care Center.
She is survived by three sons Jerome (Carol) Stanke, Reeds Spring, MO., Leroy (Marguerite) Stanke, Muskego, John (Marlene) Stanke; Bevent, one daughter, Connie (Michael) Cleary, Green Bay, seven grandchildren, Karie, Bonnie, Hollie (Michael) Rashid, Carla, David, Darrin (Jenny), Steve (Juli) and four great-grandchildren, Zachary, Andrea and Grace Stanke and David Rashid; two sisters, Suzanne (Harold) Peterson, Cecelia (Ray) Kirschling; one sister-in-law, Martha Wroblewski and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Besides her husband, Lawrence, and her parents, she was preceded in death by one son Robert and her brothers and sisters, John, Stanley (Florence) Lorraine Picuro, Peggy (James) Schweitzer, Sadie (Roy) Van Slyke, Barney (Delores), Florian, Philip (Della) and Katherine (Tony) Podjaski.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Bevent. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
