Theodore "Ted" Stencil Sr.
87, town of Rib Falls went to his eternal rest Sunday March 9, 2008 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Harbor House Memory Care, Merrill.
He was born April 2, 1920 in the town of Rietbrock, son of the late John and Anna (Nowacki) Stencil. He was the youngest of 13 children and attended grade school at Holy Family School in Poniatowski. On June 17, 1942 he married Martha B. Jagodzinski at St. John Catholic Church, Wuertzburg. She preceded him in death on June 16, 2003.
They farmed in the town of Rietbrock and during the winter Ted Sr. worked at a logging camp in Rib Lake. Later he worked at D.J. Murray then he pursued an occupation in the logging industry. In 1975 he started up Northland Lumber & Tie, which he later sold but continued on as head of maintenance until his retirement in 1997, at which time Ted and Martha continued raising raspberries.
Throughout their lives Ted and Martha enjoyed dancing, playing sheep head and socializing with friends. During his later years Ted Stencil Sr. enjoyed visits from his grandson Jeff Stencil who took him to auctions, visits to the home place and an occasional trip to the local establishment in Snapsville. Also received with great joy were visits from his granddaughter Lisa Gabriel who came up from Glendale just to make Ted Sr.'s favorite dish, Pierogi.
He is survived by his son, Theodore (Kathlyn) Stencil, Wausau, daughter, Faye (Robert) Hale, Marathon, four grandchildren, Jeff (Lisa) Stencil, Wausau, Lisa (Cory) Gabriel, Glendale, Chris (Carrie) Hale, Kaukauna and Lori Hale, Jacksonville, Flordia, three great grandchildren, Alex Gabriel, Daniel and Sabrina Hale.
Besides his parents and wife he was preceded in death by four brothers and eight sisters.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at Noon Thursday, March 13, 2008 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. The Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau and again on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the church. There will be a parish rosary service at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Stewart Avenue funeral home.
A special thanks to the Harbor House Memory Care Staff of Merrill for making Ted Stencil Sr. comfortable during his stay. To Jennie Linder and Heather Brill for being at his side in his final moments before passing. Also to Norma Kipp for her many visits with Ted Stencil Sr. during his stay at Harbor House and Fr. Robert Thorn for his home visits. Ted Sr.'s daughter Faye along with unconditional support from her husband Bob, were his special caregivers in the comfort of his home.
