Sylvester "Sy" P. Bergs
96, Wausau, died Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at home, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
He was born March 20, 1916 in Poniatowski, son of the late Anton and Katherine (Schueller) Bergs. On August 21, 1939, he married Loretta A. Kordus at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cassel. She preceded him in death on March 9, 2004.
Sy was employed for the former St. Mary's Hospital and Memorial Hospital in plumbing and heating maintenance, for 54 years until retirement. He was a charter member of The Church of St. Anne, Wausau and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
In his younger years, he enjoyed square dancing and bee keeping. Sy was a selfless man and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Most recently, he enjoyed playing cards and "Going to the Loop". Sy always had a good outlook on life and his family will miss his many stories and his good sense of humor.
Survivors include, five children, Charlotte (Richard) Boehmer, Weston, Shirley (Daniel) Gajewski, Irma, Thomas Bergs, Wausau, Ann (Lawrence) Meyer, Wausau and Mary (Scott) Bergs-Cruse, Minneapolis, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Andrew and Toby Boehmer, Jenny (Daniel) John, Dr. Christy Gajewski, Rikki, Charley and Mollee Bergs; five great grandchildren, Hailey, Carissa and Cody Boehmer, Braden and Claire John; one sister, Germaine Ritger, Marathon; one brother, Lawrence Bergs, Camp Douglas; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, and wife, Loretta, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Alex, Alois and Herbert Bergs; and three sisters, Sr. Kathleen Bergs S.D.S., Delores Fochs and Sr. Lawrenc Bergs, S.D.S.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 20, 2012 at The Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Alan Burkhardt will preside. Entombment will be at the Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Sunday from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. There will be a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Anne Endowment Fund.
