Steve J. Papa
85, 1110 Pine Street, Wausau, died Saturday January 15, 2005 under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born January 13, 1920 in Peplin, son of the late Michael and Mary (Barszcz) Papa. On April 29, 1944, he married Helen Dawiedczyk in Ohio. She survives.
Prior to his retirement in 1985, Steve had been employed as a machinist at the former DJ Murray Machine Shop for 37 years. He was a member of the Union and served as a director of the Murray Credit Union. Among his favorite pasttimes were, hunting, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Helen (Dawiedczyk) Papa, Wausau, his children, Richard (Lois) Papa, Wausau, Mary Jean (Robert) Butalla, Marathon, Rev. Stephan (Patricia) Papa, Philadelphia, 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, his siblings, Victoria Molenda, Ariz., Stella Stachura, Stevens Point, Frank Papa, Milwaukee, Lottie (Alex) Filipiak, Knowlton, Alex (Sharon) Papa, Arizona and Peter (Bernice) Papa, West Allis.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Ed, Adam, Joe and one sister, Anna.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday January 18, 2005 at the Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Steven Brice will preside. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
