Stephen R. Lindstrum

Stephen "Steve" R. Lindstrum, 77, Athens died Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Golden Living Center-Continental Manor, Abbotsford. He was born April 24, 1937 in Menominee, Michigan, son of the late Earle and Flora (Malecker) Lindstrum. Steve was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. On June 15, 1963 he married Mary Ann Matysik at Holy Family Catholic Church, Poniatowski. She survives. Steve was an English teacher at the Athens High School for more than 33 years. He started teaching there in 1961 until 1994. During this time he coached boys' basketball, baseball and was involved in the track program. In his earlier years he enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. Some of his favorite pastimes during his retirement included watching sports on TV, especially the Chicago Cubs but most important to him was following his grandchildren's sporting activities. Steve was also a member of the American Legion Post #4, Athens. Survivors include his wife of more than 51 years, Mary Ann Lindstrum, Athens, son, Eric (Karen) Lindstrum, Wausau, Kris (Chris) Barber, Marathon and Sandi (Keith) Fierek, Kronenwetter, his grandchildren, Kelsey, Alissa, Isaac, Luke and Konner and step grandchild, Talia, one sister-in-law, Myra Makowski, Wausau as well as nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Walton, sister-in-law, Patricia Lindstrum, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rita and Myron Matysik and brother-in-law, James Makowski. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens. The Rev. Paul Hoffman will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, Poniatowski. Friends may call on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the Athens funeral home.
