Stella V. Sherfinski

Stella V. Sherfinski, 94, Wausau, died Tuesday October 13, 2015 at Kennedy Park Medical and Rehabilitation Center. She was born December 29, 1920, daughter of the late Stanley and Sophie (Tabaka) Kudla. On September 7, 1946, she married Sylvester Sherfinski at St. Paul Catholic Church, Mosinee. He preceded her in death April 16, 1983. Stella was a cook at the American Legion in Wausau for over 35 years. While there, she helped prepare food for special gatherings and will be remembered especially for her homemade pies and soup. As a homemaker, her favorite hobbies were cooking and baking. She was a lifelong member of the Auxiliaries to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Burns Post No. 388 and the American Legion, Montgomery Plant Dudley Post No. 10, Wausau. As a diehard Packers fan, she enjoyed ringing the bell for touchdowns. For many years, Stella was also a volunteer at Marywood Convalescent Center, Wausau. Survivors include four children, Carol Sherfinski, Bensonville, Ill., Kathryn (Lou) Petricca, Mount Prospect, Ill., Barbara Sherfinski, Green Bay, Michael Sherfinski, Schofield, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Mike, Jack & Frank, one sister, Helen and a special friend, Herb Thomas. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday October 16, 2015 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. Robert Schaller will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
