Sophie G. Carney

Sophie G. Carney 82, formerly of Zimmerman St., Wausau, died Mon. Dec. 31, 2001 at Wausau Manor Nursing Home. She was born Jan. 10, 1919 in Wausau daughter of the late Leo and Mary (McCloskey) Sewacki. On May 6, 1937 she married Arthur F. Carney Sr. in Rochester, Minn. He preceded her in death on April 11, 1985. Sophie had been employed as a cook at the VFW Club and George's Restaurant, Wausau. She enjoyed card playing and was a member of several card clubs. Other favorite pastimes included bingo, traveling, hunting and fishing. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Rose and the Wisconsin Sportsmans Club. Survivors include 3 daughters, Shirley Laws, Merrill, Mary Ann (Larry) Knoblock, Weston, Helen (Andy) Champine, Weston, 6 grandchildren, Todd (Tami Peterson) Knoblock, Paul (Paula) Knoblock, Neil (Susie) Knoblock, all of Wausau, Amy Jo (Chris) Schumacher, Bloomington, Ill., Angela (Erik) Mesunas, Rothschild, Sara (Scottie Beste) Champine, Wausau, 8 great-grandchildren and one brother, Larry Sewacki, Sheboygan. Besides her parents and husband, Sophie was preceded in death by 4 brothers and a special friend, William Billington on December 26, 2001. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday Jan. 3, 2002 at St. Therese Catholic Church, Rothschild. Rev. Robert Streveler will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Weds. From 4 - 8 p.m at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 6th St., Wausau and again on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a Catholic Daughters rosary service at 7 p.m. Weds. Evening at the Sixth St., funeral home. The family would like to take this opportunity to express their heartfelt gratitude to the residents and staff at Wausau Manor Nursing Home. The friendship and loving care extended to Sophie and her family was special and meant so much during her time with them.
