Shirley D. Seehafer
82, Wausau, died Monday, December 20, 2010 at her home under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
She was born October 17, 1928 in Merrill, daughter of the late Alfred and Loretta (Knauf) Stieber. On May 13, 1950, she married Simon Seehafer in Wausau. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1999.
Shirley was employed as a bookkeeper for the former Phillips Company, the former Stieber Hardware Store and at JC Penney until her retirement. She was a charter member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and was involved in many church activities. She was a brownie leader at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, a member of the PCCW St. Patrick Circle, a member of the Catholic Women's Club and the Red Hats. Shirley volunteered for many organizations, including Meals on Wheels, St. Matthew's food stand, St. Matthew's fun days and treasure sale. She also volunteered at the parish office and Aspirus Wausau Hospital Gift Shop.
Among her many interests, she enjoyed gardening, yardwork, sewing, handiwork, walking and baking cookies for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed going on mystery bus tours and was a member of the 2510 Birthday Club.
Survivors include, two children, Jeanne (Robert) Jankowski, Green Bay and Robert (Kimberly) Seehafer, Merrill; four grandchildren, Ashley (Cody Grimm) Seehafer, Wausau, Alyssa and Aaron Seehafer, both of Merrill and Valerie Jankowski, Green Bay; one brother, Harley (Barbara) Stieber, Wausau; one sister-in-law, Lydia Seehafer, Marathon; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Simon, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman and Melvin Stieber.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at Noon Thursday, December 23, 2010 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Entombment will be in the Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park Wausau. Friends may call Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau is in charge of arrangements.
